Mancora, Peru: Guardian Jiu-jitsu
Our inaugural retreat was at Guardian Peru, March 4 – 9, 2026.
Guardian Peru is located in Mancora, a small coastal city in northwestern Peru. 30% of Mancora’s 15,000 residents are under 15 years old, and that 30% now have the opportunity to train Jiu-Jitsu at Guardian Peru for free. Peru’s coastal regions have suffered tremendously in the past few years due to the pandemic and other economic factors, and the opportunity to train jiu-jitsu can be life-changing for local kids. In a town that struggles from poverty and a lack of youth programs, Guardian Peru is making a profoundly positive impact.
Mancora is known for its relaxed atmosphere, Peruvian culture, world class surfing, seafood, local parks, hot springs, and markets. With a bohemian vibe by day that grows energetic at night, Mancora is a location popular not just with surfers, but travelers in general.
During the week, we enjoyed:
- Jiu-jitsu training with with travelers from around the world
- Volunteering in the local community through jiu-jitsu, language exchange, clean up, and more
- Surfing, volleyball, beautiful beaches, vibrant nightlife, and delicious food options
- Comfortable accommodations
